Let 'R Buck! 2012

Once again, we had another great year at the Pendleton Round Up. Every year it gets more fun as the kids get older and are able to participate in more activities. Hailey and Josiah are waiting for the Westward Ho Parade to start. They loved the fountain outside of the Old City Hall.

Josiah saved up and got a new hat and we broke down and bought Hailey a pair of pink cowgirl boots. She loves them.

One of my favorite parts of the Westward Ho Parade is watching the gorgeous Native American costumes go by. The horses are as decorated as the people. Some of this bead work is over a hundred years old and passed on from generation to generation.

Contestant in the Indian beauty pageant.

Love this headdress.

This woman looked so regal.

My Grandpa Fay drove his horses. He still holds the title for the oldest teamster in the Westward Ho parade. He is 91 years old and still farms with horse. This year the parade was pretty relaxing. Can you tell by Michael's posture?

The big Clydesdales.

The minies.

Of course we had to get a few pics of Hailey and Josiah by the iconic giant boots found all around downtown Pendleton. Josiah bought a buffalo bone arrow.

The giant boot outside of Hamley Western Store.
Mom took the kids to the carnival. They had a blast! Josiah was able to go on some bigger rides this year. Hailey is such a thrill seeker that she was not happy that she couldn't go with big brother on the more interesting rides.

We found a reasonably priced mechanical bull for Josiah to ride. Love that he took his hat off for it.

Josiah and I were blessed to have tickets given to us for the rodeo. It was Josiah's first time ever going to the Pendleton Round Up and I loved watching his reactions to everything. This was the Pendleton Round Up's Mounted Cowboy Band.

All Indian Relay Races.

Old-time saddle bronc demonstration. They lead a bronc out into the middle of the arena blindfolded. A cowboy climbs on and they take the blindfold off and run as fast as they can to get out of the way. This cowboy didn't last long, unfortunately.

Classic "Let 'R Buck" pose there.

Josiah and I amid the thousands of spectators. We had a great time and hopefully next year I'll get to take him to the Happy Canyon Indian Pageant.

A big thank you to our friends who gave us tickets!

God Bless,
Jackie
